Philosophy of Teaching
My philosophy of transformative teaching in higher education is grounded in a deep passion for art, design, and fashion as forces for change and a commitment to inspiring, challenging, and empowering students to realize their full creative potential. My teaching philosophy is built on three core pillars: passion, innovation, and student-centeredness. It aims to inspire students to explore their creativity while equipping them with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world and industry.
My role as an educator is that of a guide, mentor, and facilitator, empowering students to harness their creative potential to effect meaningful transformation in themselves and the world around them. That fashion is both an art and a commercial discipline is undeniable, and the challenge is to prepare students for both.
I believe in challenging students in inspiring and nurturing ways. In practice, that means setting high expectations while providing the support, encouragement, and guidance needed to succeed. By creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, I strive to foster a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration where students feel empowered to take risks, explore new ideas, make mistakes, and grow creatively.
Learning should not be confined to the classroom but extend into real-world contexts and experiences. I integrate hands-on projects, collaborative initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities into my teaching, allowing students to engage with course material meaningfully and practically. Through experimentation, innovation, and integration of new technologies, I aim to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the modern creative landscape.
In all aspects of my teaching, I prioritize student-centeredness. I strive to create personalized learning experiences that cater to my students' needs and interests, fostering a sense of ownership and agency in their educational journey. Through innovative pedagogy, experiential learning, and student-centered approaches, I seek to cultivate a new generation of creative leaders, thinkers, and innovators who will shape the future of art, design, and fashion and positively impact the world.
